Come Fly with me.........

M2's Girlfriend... M... is coming in today!Mr R and M2 have gone to have a father son lunch followed by a visit to the cigar shop...
How Macho can you get! ...then when M's Plane lands, she will call here and the guys will pick her up at the airport.

I miss the old days at the airport.. You used to be able to watch the planes coming and going from the observation deck... Or from the gates themselves...

I remember the first time Mr had to fly over seas for an extended trip, I actually pulled the kids out of school for a couple of hours so that they could come with us to the airport to say good bye!
You'd think he was leaving for a year instead of 2weeks !!!
We were nervous for him..
a strange new place, strange language, strange food.. how would he get around. how would he communicate! ..I was just as nervous for us...

Me ALONE with the kids.. weird !!
He did fine.. and has since made over 14 trips ... we did fine too.. I came to rather enjoy not cooking... often going out.. or just serving the kids cereal and hot dogs for dinner... Talk about healthy and nutritious!

It wasn't too long that the kids simply said good bye to Dad the night before the trip.. and I would take him solo to the airport...

The thing that I would enjoy about being there... aside from welcoming my hubby home ( at that time right at the gate)

Bar none ..... People watching... I would get to the gate early... and just observe... business travelers carrying only the minimum.
Families lugging their belongings, some obviously by their apparel ready for a vacation trip to somewhere warm... other's returning.. all tan and or burnt.

My favorite of all was watching folks who at first held apprehensive looks etched on their faces... ... waiting for their arrival.. and then joy and often tears once they spotted their loved one..
I'd find myself tearing up, knowing full well that feeling of seeing someone you care about safe in front of you.
Worse yet were the good byes....
Often gut wrenching scenes of people uncertain of when or if they could be together again.. if they were older ... UGh... cut me open and watch me bleed...

Yes the airport has changed alot since 9/11...
Now..... I deposit my husband at the right slot... much like a bank deposit.. a quick kiss.... here's your bag... gotta go before the cop gives me a ticket...

Upon arrival a call ahead saying he has landed finds us meeting up almost like clockwork..
Decidedly less romantic then waving at each other until his plane is out of sight...but efficient none the less..

Can't wait for M to get here !!!
We only have a few days left of both of them and we want to savor every bit.

Enjoy the weekend and all of you together. I can relate to the waterworks at the airport. They don't call me "Maid of the Mist" for nothing. Now I am the one lugging my bags, taking off my shoes to walk through security, and hoping I don't buzz! Things sure have changed from my mundane life in Plymouth. Enjoy M2 and M.
