Yes.. it's like DeJaVu all over again...We were invited to go to my brother's house for the first day of the New Year. A spur of the the moment kind of thing........ I would say it was a successful remake of Thanksgiving.. and Christmas with the complete and utter quantity of food involved.
I don't know what it is about we Italians but, if there are not at least 15 different foods to be sampled there simply is not enough.
Today we had traditional dishes of Polenta ( Some in wooden bowls..some ate from a wooden board on the table) Lentils, ( another tradition) A pork roast, Salad, dips, sauces, chips and crackers of all kinds, fruits, cakes cookies, and later pizza... I know.. it's unreal.. and I know I am forgetting to name alot of what was to be had.. We were there from 2:00 until 8:00 !! most of that time spent eating...
A ton of people all doing their thing...young and old alike! Maria's dearest childhood friend was in town... (This is a girl who has been around so long, she is like a 2nd Daughter to us... She fits right into the mix at these events...)
Kids running after each other.. fighting , laughing, crying... older folk on the couch most of the day crocheting or falling asleep watching T.V.
Kids and adults alike in the " Wii " room playing rock band...a hilarious sight for sure... A hodge podge of ages shapes and sizes all coming under one roof Thanks,to the generosity of my brother and sister in law .. who open their home to this immense crowd, simply for the enjoyment, and satisfaction of having their families around them..
I love these kinds of get togethers ...The smell of the house filled with the bounty of wonderful edibles... the sights of cousins sharing a secret or sometimes coming to blows. Mothers reprimanding their progeny of the importance of getting along, making up and all is forgiven. The older women, deep in their private discussion, non of us privy to know what this intense conversation might be about.
Mass confusion to be sure... but it reminds me of how lucky I am to have born into a close knit family... I would say it was the perfect way to start the New Year...
Friends
Family
Food
Yes.. that about covers it.
