The posts here are a little off...
Yesterday the 5th was " Cleaning lady blues" well because I was cleaning yesterday...
Today is ... " You need to get your eye's examined" Day.. because that's what we did..
Mamma had an eye appointment, She was scheduled for eye surgery this week, but that was cancelled due to some other issues that need to be addressed... we will reschedule her eye surgery for a later date... In the mean time she still needed to have her routine eye exam.
She sees pretty darn well at least to sew...which is huge ! since that is the primary way she passes her time. ( Mamma is a seamstress)
While she loves to read, for some reason whenever she does.. it causes her eyes to tear up.. something about the constant left to right motion and straining the eyes. Hopefully this surgery will take care of that issue.
As it often is with Mamma... you just never know when she will say something funny *( usually not meaning to)
or something profound and moving.
Today it was profound and moving...
There we were in the small, dark, dull windowless room. The same room that sucks my very soul every time we go there.. today was especially brutal since the Dr was running behind, it only prolonged my misery. Mamma as usual seemed to take it all in stride...
The drops that would dilate her eyes had been put in.. the reading part of the exam had been done .. all we were waiting for was the final ok from the doctor....
Tick
Tick
Tick
Tick....
With her head laying back Mamma started to grope for some tissues... I jumped up and handed her some from the small box near her...
Suddenly she said...
" Thanka God.... "
I said for what?.
" In the old country ... who cana giva usa a nica softa piece of papera, lika dis ?"
"We taka for grant too many tingas"
Now considering I probably took down a small maple all by myself with this cold I am trying to fight...
I got to thinking... she really was right..
There were tissues at every stop in this place...
Clean bathrooms, A station set up with hot coffee and tea.. even a flat screen T.V. in the waiting room, who's sole reason for being there was to numb you to the fact your appointment was running more then a 1/2 late...
At least we have theses places... In Mamma's day if you had go to the doctor's... you better have a darn good mule or borrow your brother's shoes... ( and I am not lying here) both sides of the family grew up so poor... well... those are for other stories..
Suffice to say... Mamma's words hit home... How lucky we are to live here in the United States.
As proud as I am of this country... I am as equally proud of the strong heritage and family I come from...
I never want to take for granted anything... even something as simple as a tissue...
I never want to take for granted anything... even something as simple as a tissue...Mamma's vision had not changed too much.. so she didn't "See" the need to get some new glasses... as always the frugal one... but at least she tried some on... what do you think?

Snazzy No?

I agree! America is a wonderful place. While we are enjoying England and the opportunity, finding the simple things here is so frustrating. Yesterday, I was on a hunt for cheddar cheese soup for a recipe. Guess what, that is in the same category as canned pumpkin, THEY DON'T HAVE IT HERE! For gosh sakes, not every one wants to eat BUBBLES AND SQUEAK! Never a dull moment but I keep looking for the American way in the grocery store. Wish me luck
We do take so much for granted, and it seems that the only time we truly appreciate it is when it is taken away. I really need to stop and give thanks for all that I have and stop taking so much for granted
