You know how I can tell?.... Things are starting to grow... even IN the house...
Here I have a run of the mill ivy... nice enough right?... but look closer..
Right there...on the right...
At first I thought they were weeds.. except I have had this Ivy for a while now.. and it never sprung any weeds..I found out Mamma was eating a particularity wonderful tomato and just for shits and giggles planted the seeds.. and Viola... there you have it !!!

She has been busy spreading her seeds ( So to speak...) outside as well..
Here we have a combo of Garlic and Oregano..Do you see a theme going on.?
Tomatoes. Garlic, Oregano.. soon we'll have the makings of a wonderful Tomato salad!
But we have other things going on outdoors as well. so I thought we'd go on a little tour of the yard... ( Believe me..... A major work in progress...)
Here we have a beautiful Clematis..
I brought it over from my old house, and I was really nervous that I it wouldn't take.
In fact I really thought I had lost it the first year it was planted... Than Wham.. it came back !!! I just love this flower so much.. even if it doesn't last that long.

A little closer look.... isn't she lovely???
Next we have a little area near the light post... Some pretty yellow Iris's.. in bloom..in the back there the spiky things are also Iris's, beautiful dark purple with glints of yellow..They are ready to bloom soon !!!
I bought him at the Ann Arbor Art Fair..
Sometimes it's the really really simple things that I come across ... that are the most beautiful
Some just make me smile..
Pa was the REAL gardener around here... I can only try to do the upkeep.. and believe me.. there is alot of it... Even though we have scaled everything back.. There is SO much to take care of....I really don't know how he did it all.
I will "TRY" to keep up the vegetable garden this year. But for some reason....I just don't seem to have the Umpf lately.....
I am blaming it on Menopause.
Why not..I blame everything else on it ??
In spite of having kept maybe 1/4 of the original area that he used for vegetables...(I failed miserably last year)
But I am going to give it another whirl......The Veggies will be going in soon...
I really don't know how he did it...I think the difference is... it was MORE then just a hobby for him. It was his passion.
On the left against the wall of the house. that is Dill... along the bricks were green onions ( already harvested) and the bigger bush like plant is Sage. I harvested that today too..I tied them up in small bundles and have hung them up to dry.... I think they are so pretty......
Here is a closer look...
Of course No Italian Garden would be complete with out lots and lost of BASIL !!!!
OH how I love it !!!!!
Green Peppers, Zucchini, cucumbers, and eggplants have been bought... and I haven't even thought about the flowers yet...
Here we have an adorable new addition ... Martin and Melissa gave us this beautiful Hummingbird feeder.. It sparkles so pretty...
If I were a hummingbird..I would totally check it out...
Speaking of checking out..
Check out the Lady of the Garden...
( NOT ... THE LADY GARDEN !!!! THAT... my friends is something entirely different !!!!)
No... This gal watches over everything growing... or in my case lately.. wilting..
"OH Lady of the garden..... Please......Please give me the energy and will power to weed and water and not peter out and give up by July as usual !"

Gosh .. I think she is just beautiful too... I would KILL !!!! for cheekbones like that !!!!
But alas.. Not everything in the garden is "Beautiful".. take a look at the weed bed going on here...
UGH !!!!
This is Pa's Grapevine... He transplanted it over 30 years ago.. and even then I think he got his cutting from his Uncle ! So Who know how old it really is?...

Everywhere I look in this yard.... there are reminders of him.
Weeds or not...
Great Garden or not... it is home..
It has alot of Happiness, Sunshine... and

Whimsy.....
The Angel here was actually a gift that someone gave at us at my father's funeral..At first it kinda made me sad.. then one day.. I put a flower pot cover on it's head like a fez..a extra small egg with it's yolk blown out... and NOW.. it doesn't make me sad anymore...
I must say.. After putting the egg in the angels' hand... I kept getting the feeling someone was watching me....
Hmmmmm.......

Love the irises....my favorite flower. However, they are just about done here in England. I wish they lasted all summer. I will keep positive thoughts that you keep weeding, loving and enjoying all your plants and flowers until Fall:) I cracked up when I read about your Mom planting the seeds. I had this vision of her smiling as she secretly tucked them away.
Thanks again for the pictures and taking me on the tour.....I miss home but love seeing all the pics.
Lori..
Glad to be of assistance..
The Peonys and Siberian Iris are just about ready to bloom next.. can't wait...
Isn't Mom Sneaky??...
Hope you are enjoying a good spring on the other side of the pond.
; )
No, garden for me this year since we are moving. I guess I will have to garden vicariously through you.
In the south no garden is complete with okra, corn, and squash. Then of course you must fry all of that for a supper (we don't dinner)
Have a great weekend. I am off to pack.
