THE BRITISH ARE COMING !!!... THE BRITISH ARE COMING !!!!
But instinctively knew the other was much more ridiculous.....
That's why I chose it.
As some of you may know... I have been inundated with Brits lately... Those born there... and those spending far too much time there...
Yesterday Mr R took 1/2 day and we spent it with his sister and her friend. M... Yes ANOTHER M.. ( 9 so far ).
It was such a beautiful day... we thought we'd all go to Downtown Detroit... specifically....
Greek town. First stop... for lunch...
Pegasus....... while our meal was quite good a Gyro Platter... YUM.....

Pegasus....... while our meal was quite good a Gyro Platter... YUM..... Mr R's sister apparently had a poor excuse of a bloody Mary. Pity...
From there it was simply across the way to the Casino Entrance.

I of course could not take pictures inside the casino... but man.. what a post THAT would be !!!
The cast and characters I saw could have keep this blog going for a while... but alas.. it was not to be.. and instead I snapped this one of the EUROPA cafe
with a Euro-peein..

with a Euro-peein..Our time inside was brief.. but our losses fast and furious... Casino's and I don't really see eye to eye... and losing that $20 dollars did not please me A-tall.
(I know.. what a big spender !!!)
I have often said.. The chances of me winning any money at a casino (or anywhere for that matter.) would be like me trowing a $100 bill out my car window on the freeway and having $200 fly back in... Hmmmm what are the odds????
Drying our tear stained faces .. we hopped on the People Mover.
This lovely transit system takes you to key area's of the city.. our destination... The Renaissance Center. Home of Government
I mean General Motors.

I mean General Motors. The Ren Cen really is amazing.... not only is it home to GM ... it has some great shops, offices, hotels, and Bars...

Speaking of bars... I could tell on the ride over that someone really needed a refreshment...
We quickly procured our new friend a cold beverage.... at Seldom Blues inside the Ren Cen .
Quite a snappy place.
Because it was such a nice day....
we opted for an outside view, the lovely country of Canada was our vista.

(Welcome National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association)I thought the place seemed kinda dead...
Sorry....
Newly refreshed.....we felt ready to continue on our adventure of the city...
Back to the People mover ...This thing is good.. it even reaches Times Square !!!
( DETROIT'S Time Square )that is.

During the ride.. we were given great educational info...
Feel normal .org... hmmmm.....
Why hadn't I thought to google that... I could have been normal all this time???
AND....
AND....A great view of the city....

Cobo Hall
THIS guy has been standing there reading the paper for years.....
Must be a slow reader...
Must be a slow reader...I think we all agreed that it was good way to see the city...

However.......Back on the ground... Mr R had another stop he wanted to make.. a place called...
Henry the Hatter. A great shop with a great history.....
Mr R... LOVED IT.. and got himself a sharp looking chapeau
SNAPPY !!!!
Someone else got a new cap as a gift...
but I think perhaps it makes him look like
a bit of a ......."Dodgy Character"

SNAPPY !!!!
Someone else got a new cap as a gift...
but I think perhaps it makes him look like
a bit of a ......."Dodgy Character" As our last bit of sightseeing
was coming to a close..
( Hey phat rides can be part of the tour ! )We had all commented on what a shame it was that Detroit gets such a bad rap in the press as being so violent... It has so much history and beauty.. unfortunately not much of that history or beauty is ever showcased..
Heading down Jefferson Ave.. towards Gross Pointe.. we thought we'd show our guest some of the gorgeous mansions built by some of the city's most prominent and wealthiest folk.
However we could not do that, since Jefferson Ave was blocked off indefinitely by the police department...Helicopter swirling overhead..
We backtracked around and tuned into news radio, which provided us the info that a barricaded gunman was holed up in his apartment...
Ummm.. Yeah.. NO.....really it's a great city.. you just have to put up with these
"Little" inconveniences now and again...
A quick trip over to Belle Isle in hopes that everything would blow over soon..... till then we took in the sights...
I have a picture of the helicopter from the island.. but it was too blurry... this
is much nicer anyway.
is much nicer anyway. And so ...The day came to an interesting end...
Over all it really was a fun! ..
Over all it really was a fun! ..
It was great seeing my sister in law..
and meeting M.
and meeting M.It will be hard to have to go back to Video Chat.. but I guess it's better then getting
"Smacked in the Gob"...
Safe trip " Mates" ... "Give us a ring" when you get in !!!

Pfffffffffzzzz.......
just not myself.
As I kept getting closer.. the thing would not fly away...

I felt so sorry for it... So I got out of my car... and tried to help it ... but no matter how slowly I came up on it.. the little bugger would out run me... (AND in circles !! )
People saw what I was attempting to do.. but only smiled and kept going... finally I was getting hot and irritated ... I just about popped the bird ... the bird.

I'd been running from the minute I got up this morning...So I had no problem falling asleep.. It is staying asleep now that seems to elude me...
(I didn't think this guy would appreciate a camera in his face on our first meeting.)
