Just thought I would update you on a little jaunt that Mr R took me on...
In an effort to try new things... expand my horizons.. and not be so damn hesitant about trying new things... (what can I say.. I have become a creature of habit)
I have made a concerted effort to say YES!!!!! to new things....
A very good example of how wonderful this policy can be was our recent trip to Greenfield Village Holiday Nights ... I was thinking up about 100 different reasons I didn't want to go.
It would be Cold...
I've been to the village before...
Cold....
How good can it really be?...
Cold....You get the picture..
But now all I can say is.....
THANK GOODNESS... I said YES.. it was a wonderful wonderful night..
So it was in that same spirit I said YES... to Mr R's offer of seeing some old houses in Detroit..
I think you get....why I wasn't in a big hurry..
I mean... Old Houses in Detroit... Whoop tee Doo !! .
I am so glad I went... Here are some samples of this Beautiful neighborhood...
(In no particular order...)
You are now entering...
The Boston Edison District
This... I believe was Walter Briggs' Home
You know you've made it when your house has it's own name...
This.. belonged to Charles T Fisher... of Fisher Body
Benjamin Siegal's digs...
S.S. Kresge ... owner of Kresge's and Kmart lived here
Someone rich lived... and lives here.. ( Who.. I do not know...)
Here we have a lovely home for sale...
In this neighborhood....No two houses are alike.
One of main things one seems to wonder about is.......
How do you heat a house that big??
(the website touches on this subject)

The up keep must be unreal....
and as you can see...
some could not afford to maintain that upkeep...

This one had a piece of old curtain that would fly outside of the window on the right... making it look like an old haunted house...
It made me sad to think that it was once someones home.. and probably held wonderful memories.
Well.....At least most of the homes still do....
Well.....At least most of the homes still do....
Obviously someone "Hip and Cool" Lived/Lives here...
One end of the area had giant mansions... and the other had... "Smaller" mansions..
The odd thing was with these "smaller" homes......
most were perfectly fine looking.
A home that was obviously lived in...
Could be right next door to.. or across the street from homes like this....
Boarded up... and abandoned....

These two homes were right next to each other...
This one a few doors down
Now....I HAD to post this one... especially with the pit bull out in front...
makes it look more menacing doesn't it?

I can honestly say...I am really really glad I took some time out to see these lovely homes. I'd love to see what they look like in the spring !!!
So Yeah.... I think I WILL swing by Berry Gordy's old Crib
sometime when the weather breaks..
This has been Robin Leach with lifestyles of the rich and famous ..wishing you

Thank you Robin Leach....what a beautiful and sunny day there in Michigan....I forgot what those days are like :)
Remember, one of our first road trips on my return is to Eastern Market.....I have lived such a sheltered life...I have never been there!!
Be good and enjoy your day!
Lori..
Consider it done...
Hope the sun starts showing up over there.. even with the cold... sunshine can make ALL the difference !!
Peace Out
; )
What beautiful homes, make me want to go back in time and see what it was like in the day. But yes the practical me want to know what the utility bills are like in those bad boys! I guess if we have to ask we cannot afford, also the taxes must be out of this world (Detroit you know). I think I am way too practical! But I do love the homes
Lots of lovely houses! I love trips. We have four young children and a trip to the grocery store is adventurous enough for us!
Thelumberjackswife....
I hear ya... Target is a virtual day at the spa for me...lol
; )
Wow.. I didn't realize there were such nice homes in Detroit! What area is Boston Edison in? So, I guess this wasn't any kind of house walk, huh?! Although I'm not sure I would really want to venture into any of these homes anyway!!
