This.. is the first thing he handed me as part of my Valentine Gift(s)...

Just the kind of thing I love to read...

What a great start!!!

The next part involved getting into the car and heading to downtown Detroit...Whilst listening to a great CD sent to us (by surprise) from a family member... (Thank You so much Cheryl... it was the perfect touch to our road trip !)

He had been wanting to try a particular restaurant for quite awhile ....Located only a few blocks away from where the old Tiger Stadium used to stand.

OH ... MY.... GOSH !!!! The aroma hit me while still INSIDE THE CAR !! a block away...Granted not the most upscale area..but don't let the exterior of the area fool you...However....The restaurant was beautiful inside....the entrance (from the inside hallway)

SLOWS Barbecue.. Even though we were there for lunch..there was still a half hour wait...

(At least the line wasn't out the door)...

AND....

we had some entertainment...These two little guys were having a very serious discussion about the Dragons outside and the best way to kill them...

The girls..... were pocketing their tips I guess?

The atmosphere inside was truly warm and friendly...

The only madding aspect was the mind blowing smells coming at you from every angle..

Finally a table !!!!..Let me just say this...

The food.... was OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD!!!!!

Mr R had the Triple Threat Pork

(Apple wood Bacon.. Pulled Pork and Ham on Texas Toast!!! )

and I had the Yard Bird (Pulled Amish Chicken breast smothered in mustard sauce .. mushrooms...Cheddar .. and topped with Apple wood Bacon...*faint ! )

I did take pictures of the sandwiches.. but they didn't turn out very nice.. so rather than post ugly pictures... you can go to their website and see how beautiful they are...

You would have to GO THERE to appreciate how glorious they tasted!

Now after all that sloppy goodness I went off to the Ladies .. to wash up..

Pretty Snappy Bathroom .. No?...

Right down to the Jet propulsion hand dryers...seriously... that sucker was stronger then most car wash dryers...Lunch was simply wonderful...

A VERY cool place...

Unfortunately .. not all the buildings in this area have had the same good luck in renovation.. This was posted only a few doors down from SLOWS... Very..sad...

Hopefully one day Detroit will return to it's former glory...and I think change is a coming...

All around the area.. Signs that things are progressing..
It's just that...Sometimes... Progress isn't Pretty...
So there we were.. driving around downtown Detroit.. with no plan in place ....

when we saw this....and decided to swing by the MGM Casino..

Now I am not really fond of Casino's...and have often said..

"Gambling....It's like tossing money out of the car window on the freeway...and expecting to get double the amount to fly back in...it just doesn't happen."...

and it didn't..

$20 bucks each was all we were willing to wager....and even that was too much to lose.

(MGM...I Don't like you at all.)

It wasn't long and we were outta there... and on to ..who knew what other adventures..

We decided to head over to Gross Pointe and look at Hoidy Toidy homes...

On the way...we saw THIS
I have been meaning to stop at this Historic Detroit Landmark Pewabic Pottery
for such a long time.. when I said so... Mr R quickly made an illegal U turn ...

and BAM...there we were..This place is filled to the brim with lovely Artwork..Vases and Tiles.. The history behind this incredible craft is great.Every where you look.... there were lovely lovely piecesThis.. is why I hate you MGM.. had I not blown my $20 on the All that Glitters Slot machine..(*Stupid* Stupid *Stupid)...

I would have snapped up this little ditty..Or this one..

( Mr R is a Leo .. it would have been a great gift...UGH!!!)OH well looks like I have an excuse to go back...His birthday is in August.

Upstairs was a small museum featuring more elaborate pieces..

The founder ... Mary Chase Perry Stratton (Man....Seems like a lot of names going on there.. but then SHE had a lot going on..)

I can't tell you how this little stop (although unplanned) made me so happy...

It really doesn't take much..

We still made it to Grosse Pointe and gawked at the lovely homes for a bit...then snapped up a Starbucks for the road and headed home..

Mr R had been invited to play cards tonight with the guys which I know he will enjoy (Probably not as much as Pewabic Pottery but hey... it's a sacrifice he's willing to make...)

and I am already in my Jammie's for the evening.. Which lord knows.... I REALLY DO enjoy...

All in all..it's been a WONDERFUL day...
