Who knew coffee could be so complicated ?I know they take their coffee seriously... 
Almost as serious as California and Seattle...Ha...I mean ....
I don't know about you.. but I barely have enough time or energy to plug a pot in... let alone go through an entire ritual for a cup of coffee..
But maybe there is something to this whole production... 
I guess if you really love something ... you may want to have it done.. and done right. Why NOT make it a virtual Gala affair?...
I can say ( In my opinion).. the Italian's do have one thing right.
It's about engaging in life over a perfectly made cup of coffee. In an Italian coffee bar.. not only does one take the time to have a ( Decent) cup of coffee. 
Something sweet (Biscotti or trumpeta etc... )
is a must.
In Italy the idea of Coffee on the go ... is to say the least... a little different..
Coffee to go.....
One will often share this experience with total strangers... either right up at the bar.. at tall round tables in the room... or outside on the sidewalk.
Some are regulars and have their coffee and dolce (sweet treat) at the ready upon arrival.
Others might be simply walk ins...Standing amongst their fellow man...usually before work.
Most will stand around and either listen to or discuss the ever changing political shenanigans of the government... ( theirs AND ours )
Milling about... having small talk.... catching up on life, work, family.... Discussing Football( Soccer) and the celebrity like players ...engaging in heated debates... cracking jokes....and THEN finally ...
Off to start their day... (Only to return home a few hours later ... for the obligatory hour and half to two hour lunch.)
A far cry from our impersonal drive through Tim Horton.. or Starbucks... To say nothing of the idea of getting your coffee at a Gas Station !!! (or coming home for a extended lunch)
If you ask me.. I think they do it right.... and ......It sounds like a plan.

Speaking of coffee.. I need to warm mine up.

Speaking of coffee....how was the "coffee chat" last night? I sure thought about all of you. My ears weren't ringing....but should they have been? LOL
