It's Gettin Hot in Here !!!!

HOT ! HOT !!! HOT !!!!!!!
Right around my neck of the woods.. We are having an extreme HEAT WAVE !
and I DO mean extreme..
Temps have hit near record highs...

It hasn't been this hot since 1988
(I only remember 88 because that year... sporadic fires sprung up all along the highways...intense heat... a rouge cigarette butt flung out a car window or small spark would ignite entire areas of dry grass in minutes)
That was also the year we could finally afford a USED window air conditioning unit that we proudly placed in our front window precariously perched on a make shift ledge ... we didn't care one bit that it sounded like the loading docks over at AMTRAK .

It was small but helped get the job done... at least in the living room.. and part of the kitchen.. For a few days that hot hot summer.. I remember laying down on floor with the kids in that tiny living room trying to keep them cool and praying they would nap... Ugh!!!

So now that we are reaching the same kind of energy sapping weather ... I am all too aware that But Thank You Jesus and all the Saints.. we now have a full blown (no pun intended)
Entire house cooling air conditioning system!!!

All I can keep thinking is
( Sorry that 70's marketing never really leaves your head)

SO....
Why( You may ask) with a perfectly good air conditioning unit at home to keep us cool as cucumbers am I complaining?...

Because we had PRIMO tickets to Monday's Tigers vs Orioles game..at Comerica Park
So... instead of being IN my air conditioned comfortable home... we went to the game.
I figured with the vibe of the crowd... The Great seats... and the opportunity to spend time with the kids.. I would keep a stiff upper lip... and make the best of it... despite the game being held on the field of Dante's Inferno.
We got there around 12:30 and headed over to the carousel and the concession stand for lunch
There is nothing like a ballpark frank... and... a cold beer to keep your upper lip stiffLike I was saying... the seats were Amazing.. 8 rows up....right behind third base... Almost close enough to reach out and pinch Johnny Damon's behind...
( If one were so inclined to try such a thing ) It was already in the high 80s when we got to the seats... and within a half hour ... the temp on the scoreboard showed it had reached 90.... Yes... we went from Bad...To worse... That stiff upper lip nonsense is for the Brits...and ... the birds..

In all seriousness.. it was just too oppressive little by little we ended up looking for some relief in the upper decks ... We and many others had to stand near the box seats and concessions where at least a blistering breeze would waft in now and again
The game dragged on and on for what seemed like forever.... Even the players seemed to be drained... the game was agonizingly long... By the fourth we'd had enough.
Great seats or not... it was time to head for home...But not before Mr R took a swing( Pun Intended ) at some batting..Such style... such grace... so what if you only got one... in my book you still knock em out of the park... Speaking of park... here is a picture Maria took ( With her IPhone) of the park just outside the gates Music Hall could be seen as we exited from the parking garage...
As well as The Detroit Opera House...( Who says Detroit doesn't have culture???)

Apparently the upper crust patrons at the "HOT SPOTS" where also feeling the heat...It was a good day... albeit a SUPER SCORCHER...
We had fun...and that's what really counts...
Now if you will excuse me... Between this heat wave... and my Hot Flashes...
I have GOT keep cool... ANYWAY I can..

Thanks, Maria, for posting this entertaining blog about your day at the Tigers' game. Hope you will stop by the Detroit Opera House in the fall when our opera season opens! It will be much cooler then, I hope. :)
