" OH What a Beautiful Mornin"

Yesterday I showed a new addition to my "Girl Cave" of a lovely funky looking star burst 60ish looking mirror from Ikea...After all if Mr R can have a "Man Cave" Downstairs....I figured I should make use of the newly unoccupied room that once belonged to Maria.

As you can see I have cozied in and just love the digs... Here's the tour of the desk area.

The desk it's self was "HAND MADE" by Maria's Grandfather!
It's a beauty.
Because they don't have alot of room in their new home....It and alot of her other stuff stayed .
(Bonus ! )
So for the start of our tour... we'll start with the top part of the desk

Maria had a whole Zen theme going on ... so when I found the oriental candle holder on the far left I nabbed it..( I think I paid like $1.75!) ... Next we have two pair of glasses.. one for distance and one for up close.. Meh.. it comes with old age..

Next another Target clearance bargain... As I have mentioned HERE .
Maria had a Buddha thing going on... so I couldn't pass this object de art.... again a steal at around $ 6.95!..

Of course our little Bettha friend "Charlie Gibson" has found a new home.
I am happy to report he is doing well.. Next a funky little touch lamp..and last by certainly not least every menopausal woman's best friend.. the personal fan.The mish mash of items are...
A few birthday cards on top of some photo albums.. a package that I have to send to my son.. Maria's old I Pod and stand ( SCORE !) the phone.. A plate (sans english muffin) a cup of Timmy's and the pinnacle and purpose of this room...I haven't' discussed it yet but I think it's time to introduce you to the newest member of the family..
My new Notebook....
* Let us all pause for a moment of silence please.

I hadn't mentioned it before because ... well.. I am a little embarrassed with the all the gifts I got for my 50th.
This little beauty was purchased with funds from my birthday... and to be honest.... I feel so spoiled... but I also have to admit.. I LOVE IT !!! and have finally come to grips with the need to acknowledge my new baby.

The opposite side of the room holds what is quickly becoming my new favorite spot.. Maria's old day bed.

The New Mirror.. a cool bowed frame ( That I am hoping to fill with cool close ups of my family) as well as Maria's old Funky Ikea lamp. Actually everything (except the mirror) are all castoffs that my dear daughter left behind... Fortunately I am reaping the benefits.

Across the way.. this GIANT screen T.V.... NOT!!!!
I get teased about this tiny little dinosaur alot ...but you know what ...I don't care.. That's how much a T.V. means to me.. So there you have it.. the "Inside" part of the tour of where I spend alot of my time.

This morning I made an early morning trip to the airport with Mr R.. and the predawn sky was just magnificent! ... I of course did not have my camera with me... and by the time I got home the sun was out.... Still beautiful..but WOW!.. There is NOTHING like a predawn sky!
All this in addition to the unseasonably cool day is making for an amazing morning.
In fact for a good portion of the week.. it is going to be heavenly...

Just for the fun of it...a little glimpse outside the window of the " Girl Cave" on this wonderful morning.

Now if I could find a way to have you HEAR this little guy and his friends... You too would be as content as I am.
Have a GREAT day where ever you are.

Let The Great World Spin

Thought I'd let you know I did finish one of the books listed on my sidebar..and thought I'd give you a brief summery of what I thought..
(For those of you who might care )

Let the Great World Spin

By Colum Mccan
The book was amazing...

The story begins on a hot August day in 1974.
New York City... Manhattan and truly the whole world is mesmerized by the sight of a man perched on a wire strung between the newly constructed Twin Towers.
The scene based on the true life incident carried out by Philippe Petit is the platform on which all the characters in the book come to life.
On this day their lives are all intricately weaved within each other so brilliantly that each character almost jumps off the page.
Scenes are described so vividly that at times I found myself holding my breath..or tearing up.
It reminded me of the movie CRASH which by the way if you haven't see it ...
RUN don't walk to the nearest video rental or better yet just out and out buy it..
In fact
I feel it should be required viewing in all high school classrooms
That's how passionate I am about it
At any rate .. Back to the book..

The way each seemingly small inconsequential character becomes pivotal would totally surprise me... and I'd think Wow.. I didn't see that one coming... I had no idea that was going happen.
Each story line filled out ... expanded and would come to mean so much more than what seems evident on the surface.
Each life touches the other and is forever affected..

If you know me.. This is a central life theme I believe in vehemently..

Note*
Though not upbeat or light.. I found this story to be a wonderful journey into the human experience... What we are all about..
Good ... Bad... and Ugly but mostly how much we are connected.

I do believe I will be submitting this book to my book club.
Now...
On a completely unrelated note.. (Well other than the theme of we a are all connected)
I would like to wish My friend Lori's Mom Cathy a Very Very Happy Birthday.
I have a card ready to send but unfortunately in spite of all my good intentions.. I did not mail it in time... Doh!
Cathy has some really difficult health issues..but is from all accounts one strong.. stubborn lady...
Hmmm now I know where Lori gets it..
Cathy I don't know you but feel like I do..so my wish for you on your birthday is Great Health and Happiness.
Won't be long now and your girl will be home !! Yeah !!!
Please send out some feel good vibes to this gal !
Thanks !

The Birthday Saga Continues....

You know..
Most people have a Birth-DAY... I guess I have a Birth-MONTH because it seems like that is all I write about lately.. and frankly I am OK with that..

But please.. just indulge me a little longer...

Today.. A couple of my oldest and dearest friends joined me outside on the terrace of Antonio's on an absolutely glorious day for lunch.

Aside from some pretty funny chit chat... Gra and I also exchanged Birthday gifts...

Here she is opening my gift to her.. a lovely Italian style bowl.
I found it at The Italian Dish
(A great little place to visit in Birmingham)
I followed a lady around for I dont' know how long, as she was deciding on whether or not she wanted it.
The minute she put it down.. I nabbed it
Hey ... You snooze.. You lose!

Actually I kind of wanted it for myself and had a hard time giving it to Gra.
I only did so because she is my friend and is 50.
This place has some great pieces...

Our phenomenal server Barbara seems enamored with it as well...
Back off Barb..You are a great server... and I appreciated the shot you sent over.. but if she gives this bowl up.....I get custody..
Meanwhile a rather unnerving saga was unfolding... before me.
(OK well in happened this way in my mind)
Bridget: "Listen Gra...Don't look or turn around right away .... but there is a naked man behind you"Gra: "Yeah right .... You're kidding me... Where...?"Bridget: "Just turn around slowly.. don't make it obvious."Bridget: "See right over there."Gra:" OH MY GOSH... a naked man !!"Bridget: "I told you"Grazia:" I'm just gonna play it cool and pretend he's not there" Are you kidding?... of course we're not going to just let this slide..It was a truly beautiful day.. and the nudity only added to the ambiance.
We all had lots to get done and had finished a wonderful meal...just as we started to head out.. there it was !!!
The damned Dessert tray!!!...
I kid you not.. we were almost out the door.. and turned around and sat back down.
Well Brig and I sat back down.. Grazia having will power of steel and a mile long list of things to get done went on to be productive.. while Brig and I sat down and added to our personage.
OH MY GOODNESS... It was wonderful.
We dug in so fast.. I never even thought to get pictures of them in their pristine presented state...
Instead you only get to look at the mangled mess of half eaten yumminess... Even than you can just about see how decadent they were.
We ordered two different items and split them..
This was good..
This was even better!!!
It was just heavenly...and of course we stayed another hour...
But you know what they say...Friends don't let Friends eat dessert alone.
Thank you friends..I know I can always count on you ... Ladies.. it was DELICIOUS in so many ways...

Because I didn't have to cook dinner
( OK Lets be honest I couldn't have eaten another bite I was so full)
I too was able to get alot of my errands done..
Got a key made...
Pictures printed for some friends
Returned some shoes at the Mall
and Stopped by the Cemetery to talk to Pa...
This is a small peek of what is just outside the mausoleum ...
Some might find the Cemetery a sad or morbid place. To me it is a place of Calm.. Peace and Beauty.. Again ... Happy Father's Day Pa we miss you.
Dear God :
Today... was a good day.
