Buy Baby Buy...

First off ....I thought it only proper to give a decent definition of Hedonic..
(Since this isn't a common everyday word)

he·don·ic   /hiˈdɒnɪk/ [hee-don-ik]
–adjective
1. of, characterizing, or pertaining to pleasure: a hedonic thrill.
2. pertaining to hedonism or hedonics.
Which leads to the question
What is hedonism?
Hedonism is a way of thinking that revolves around finding pleasure and gratification without pain.

Wikipedia gives a more in depth definition.

I went shopping today...
Can you see where I am going with this?
Mind you it's not like I was strolling through Nordstroms or even Macy's... I was just over at Wallyworld ( Walmart)..
Which in some ways can be even worse than the high end stores.

I mean for me...usually the sticker shock from the high end Fancy falootin items serves as a good biff in the head.
I can easily stop myself before I even begin .. I mean for the most part...I'm usually just not that girl who buys the HooyLooy shoes with the red soles.. or the " Cool" Handbag.

I do try to buy quality but am not "Normally" sucked into name brands.. I just don't care that much.. Meh

Back to Wallyworld..

As I roamed isle after isle of gigits and gadgets... I began to get lulled in...
Of course I need this little thing it's only ____ dollars!

While I'm here I should pick up a couple more _____ blanks.

You can never have enough ____ blanks.

OMG !! look _____ blank is on sale!

The price is great on ____blank.... in the cart you go.

This is the regular price of _____blank?

Wow at this rate I can a dozen !

And so it goes.. One after another of either unnecessary thing or at the very least unnecessary for now thing was being tossed into my buy category.
How many tubes of mascara does one really need anyway?...
But wait.. THIS one has a new fancy dancy brush on it that will add 4 inches to your lashes !!!!
ya right.

None of the things in my cart were expensive per say... It's just that I caught myself throwing things in simply because I could.

That's when I stopped and really thought about what I was doing.. Just because something is inexpensive don't mean that I am not indulging in over consumption.
If one box of Macaroni and cheese is good.. of course 10 are even better.
What is that?...
We are blessed to be in a country that has so much and so so so many choices. But sometimes I think we get lost.
Lost in the idea that we need or want more..it becomes an insatiable craving or a thoughtless mundane act in which where we are numb to what we have vs what we need.
So I can't go around in judgment of big spenders...thinking I am any better than the woman who shops like it's her job spending on expensive designer labels...because I am just as guilty every time I think I need a few more tubes Colgate toothpaste ...
(When I know I have 4 more in the cupboard.)
When is enough... enough?
I just try to keep reminding myself.. LESS... is ... MORE.

Does buying more and more "STUFF" make us Happier?.
Maybe IN the moment.. but often in the after math ... we realize that having more doesn't mean
Having More Happiness
Most of the stuff went right back on the shelf..I was able to head out with only the necessities..

Milk

Glad Air fresheners ( Believe me.. a necessity in our bathrooms)

An Eggplant

Cereal

and Puppy Pee Pads..
Especially....Puppy Pee Pads....

That's My Mamma... This is sick

No literally.. This fish is sick..
It would seem it is not just Me .. Mr R.. and Now Mamma that are feeling under the weather...
My Dear Dear fish Joe Pesci is feeling mighty punk as well...

( File Photo of Joe Pesci in Healthier Happier days)

Some of you may recall the story of three fish..
(Not in any way remotely related to the biblical story of the loaves and the fishes)

If you missed that little gem and you are really bored you can read about it Here

After the sudden and tragic death of RichRod (the fish)
I am sad to say that perhaps another one of the Three Amigos may be heading for that giant porcelain bowl in the sky..

Yes my poor little Joe Pesci is not feeling very well.
How do I know?..
Well he is barely eating anything ( Not like him at all)

He is spending waaaay too much time tucked in between the rocks at the bottom of the bowl.

He doesn't really swim around the bowl like he used to but merely floats around kinda listless( Hmmm...Kinda sounds like me on a bad day)

He isn't making those cute little bubbles at the top of the bowl like he used to..
(Another riveting post you may have missed.. Don't panic it's Here)

Over all his coloring just doesn't look as vibrant.

Needless to say I am extremely worried..
I have tried just about everything..

I have changed the water more frequently
(Making sure to treat the tap water)

I tried different food
I even put his bowl next to Charlie Gibson's ... in hopes that seeing his old pal would cheer him up..

Nothing.

Here's the part where my Mamma comes in.

So I walked into the kitchen and I noticed that in Joe's bowl are floating hundreds of teeny tiny little white flecks.. I figured OH MY GOSH.. this is it!!!
He's molting or something.

But it is that very moment that I notice he actually looks a little perky (er) ... his fins are sprawled out and even seems to be interacting with Charlie Gibson..

Mamma comes over to the quarantined area and says..

"Yaaah.. de fisha he looka happy now No?"

I said

"Yeah.. he really does .. but I can't figure out what all that white stuff is floating in the bowl."

She said..

"I putta a Edrusin inna da watta."

Ah.... what?

"I putta a Edrusin inna da watta."

as she pulled a bottle of Excedrin from the cupboard.

"You put an Excedrin tablet in the water????"

"Yah.. I know if I no feela good I taka a Edrusin eh I feela gooda so I try for da lilla fisha too.. I see he almost dead anaway..so No Problema.."

* Blink * Blink ... I am rendered speechless.

Ironically...So far so good..

Who knows maybe I can work out some kind of endorsement deal with the makers of Edrusin...

Maybe Now you can see why I say I relate to the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding..
In her case her father thought Windex healed everything..

For us... it's Excedrin..

That's My Mamma..
OH.. and Please keep Joe Pesci in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank You.

Ahhhh...Chooooo !!!

And ....
Happy Anniversary Too!!!...
Yes Mr R and I are still fighting our colds.. It ain't pretty...
Yesterday being Saturday.....
Mr R had big plans for our special day... which in part involved whisking me off to another country !!
OK... so it only Windsor and about 45 min away but technically still another country.
But to be honest neither of us were feeling great..
which could have put a damper on the whole day..
Instead we hung around together basically resting ... relaxing ... and doing nothing..
In spite of all the relaxing going on.. I found that my thoughts started drifting down memory lane.. and what we were like long long ago..
You see we have been married 29 years and have known each other over 35 !!
That.. my friends is a long long time...
We met when I was 14 and he 15..

At first we were awkward and unsure of each other and our feelings
But it didn't take long to figure out that we didn't want to be with anyone else.
Our relationship blossomed and after six years of being footloose and fancy free....we decided to take the next step... and get hitched.
Three years later.. our babies completed our lives. Through the years we learned more and more about each other..I can't say that it's always been flowers and butterfly farts ....but it hasn't always been hell either.. We have grown up together.. and now look forward to growing old together.SUPERMAN?... Yeah he was pretty cool..
But Honey YOU have always been MY Superman !!
I feel so fortunate have you in my life.. You have made it as close to a fairytale as any girl could want.
Thank You for the best 29 + years of my life...

Great Day at the DIA !!

Hello all..
Thought I'd give you an update of the great day I had yesterday.
In spite of both of us having colds. (Mr R lovingly shared his with me... Ugh! )
He took a Use it or Lose it day and we made plans to meet up with some friends at the DIA !!!
We were going to make this a great day... cold or no cold..
Since everybody's gotta eat right?..
He also planned a little lunch at Traffic Jam and Snug Michigan's first Micro Brewery. The whimsical lamppost just outside the restaurant on the corner of Second and Canfield was painted to look like a giraffe
While the Bike rack in front of the restaurant was a dragon..
Inside the first thing that awaited you was a cozy set up for a game of chess.
You know... in case you have a long wait.
( we did not have to wait..... and it's a good thing to...because I do not play chess )The decor was a combination Applebee's meets Grandma's attic.. fun and eclectic
Tons of stained glass pieces framed the walls as well as being used as light fixtures.Apparently the "Buck" stopped here... ( sorry I couldn't resist)
The food was pretty good.. and lunch prices moderate.. It was fun to finally check this place out since we had heard so much about it..
Across the street was their microbrewery..We didn't have enough time to really check it out... at least not on this trip.
However....While in the parking lot.. adjacent to the restaurant I noticed a little green sign in the window of this ominous old house
Upon closer inspection.. I see that it had a pretty darn good messageSpeaking of Peace
or Piece as it were..
I was really craving a "piece" of something sweet and a cup of coffee. So we decided to head a couple of streets over and pop into Avalon Bakery.
We had been there before... I wrote about itHere.
I had not had not used the facilities on my last trip...if I had I would have noticed the Shangri la they have painted in the "rest" room..
It might seem odd I know that I would take a picture of the bathroom
But COME ON... this is no ordinary bathroom
So far the day had been wonderful!

A cool crisp fall day with my Honey.... Sun shining .. Good lunch... cup of EXCELLENT coffee and a lemon scone in hand.. and we hadn't even reached the DIA yet !!
You gotta love Detroit ... So many different kinds of people.. so many interesting places.. It really is a great town.. I hate that it sometimes gets a bad rap.
Next door at Flo's which by the by is the cutest little boutique... I noticed another sign in the window..October 2oth is apparently I Love My Fat Body Day... and I didn't even know it !!!
My gosh...Had I known I could have run for queen and ridden on the float. On to the DIA... Here behind the DIA ... we caught sight of some kind of photo shoot taking place.
Once inside we met up with our friends.. It was great catching up ... we had not seem them since Maria's Wedding.. and let's face it.. it was hard to get any one on one time with anyone that day.
It was good to hear all that had been going on with them..all while intermingling with the art.

Strike a pose !

These guys were a bit creepy... The ones in the middle not on the ends..

There were so many interesting things to see. As well as some old favorites...
The Diego Rivera Court is always a great thing.. today with the sun shining in just so.... it was spectacular.
We were lucky enough to spend some time with guide who pointed out some of the hidden meanings of the characters in the fresco.. SO SO interesting.. You could spend half the day in this room alone.Every corner.. every picture has a meaning.
If you live in the area..do yourself a favor and visit the museum and this wonderful work of art.
In this room/ hall we have the suits of armor which are pretty impressive.. to think that somewhere in time.. people actually wore these in battle is mind blowing.
The ceiling reminded me of some the beautiful churches in Italy..
NICE VIEW... of the Detroit Public Library across the street...hmmm
All this walking and talking made us thirsty.. so we stopped off at the Kresge Court ... a lovely room that is basically art in itself.. while there one can also pick up a hot or cold drink and snack... rest and chit chat with friends.. which is exactly what we did with Our Friends..
I have to say it...
These two are just the epitome of class .
Yet they're fun as all get out too !
We want to be them when we grow up.. Heck we want to be them now!
A couple of hours just flew by.. and we still wanted to get to the gift shop.. after all it was Double Discount Day for members.. !!
Let me tell you.. even the gift shop items were works of art..
This.. was just stunning...

As was this..

The handbags and scarf in this case were unreal.. covered in what I believe were Swarovski crystals..... absolutely gorgeous While some of these were made from rubber..These from soda pop ring pulls!

and these old "Motown" vinyl records
The kitchen clock from what else?kitchen utensils.
It was a virtual feast for the eyes...
Thanks again Ken and Evey ... as always we had a great time !
